The child glanced up right at the moment the thunder came as he stood near the edge of a sidewalk. It rolled over the sky with a dark vengeance that only thunder itself could have. His dark brown eyes widened as darkness enveloped the city he resided in, taking in every bright flash that ran across the edge of the dim pieces of cotton that everyone called clouds. They came over the slumbering city as the new storm began, but the rain was the least of his worries. The young boy ran a hand through his long unruly brown hair. His white skin did not seem so white anymore; instead it was covered in soot which gave him a dirty and worn appearance.

Hiding in her grove the mother protects, She feeds and nurtures, She loves and never rejects. Hiding in her grove she keeps her young from harm, Even when rough winds pass she gives them no need for alarm. Once the day comes the younglings will leave the nest, They will make of their lives what they will, There's no need for her to do the rest. Yet as they fly away the wizened mother weeps, With sadness, With Joy, Hoping that wherever they may go they will carry the lessons they were shown.
